(33 Months) - 2 Years, 9 Months

This month she's been working on earning marbles for staying in her big kid bed ALL NIGHT. That typically requires a nightly visit from her daddy, though, to locate her Neenie in the middle of the night.

She's developed a certain kind of rock n roll sound when she plays her guitar. As seen in this "walrus on the water" video - a Francie original.

Walrus on the Water:

Walrus on the Water (15 second version):

I'm not sure if her mean streak is particularly new, or if it's just that she's getting older and smarter so she's really able to activate that meanness - which, of course, she saves only for her mama and daddy. She's prone to hitting, just began pulling hair, and will scream loudly in our faces.

She might have some imaginary friends, although it's unclear whether they are male of female, human or animal, and don't seem to entertain her for very long. But Iso and Gogo have become staple names in our household, so we are curious what will become of them.

She's all girl. Loves Chapstick. Getting her nails painted. Taking care of babies and giving them mama milk. Having conditioner put in her hair. Choosing her outfits.

Recently became interested in using her fingers to show 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Screen time: she will now watch TV for up to about 30 minutes, but only if she's sick/tired and we are sitting with her, also watching the show. She's come to ask every 5-7 minutes if we can watch a "new one," so it doesn't appear that the Boob Tube captivates her attention quite as much as it does ours. She's definitely not hooked on any one program. She's had the most exposure to Sesame Street, or "Elmo" as she calls it. There is an "odd animal couples" show we've watched parts of together. She apparently is enraptured with watching and singing along with nursery rhyme videos on YouTube with my dad on Wednesdays. The other day we tried to watch the Winnie the Pooh Christmas program, and have attempted a few other holiday kid shows.

ABC's All.The.Time.

And for the quotes I took the time to write down this month:

"I don't can do it."

"Daddy Aglix."

"Mmm, smells good in here. You makin' beer, daddy?"

"Buttholes are privates."

"You guys go upstairs and make a baby for myself."

"Hey, my mama made my buns!"

"Jingle Bells ... Jingle Way, Hey Babe!"

"But I don't want to sit on Santa's lap. Maybe when I'm bigger."

"Look at this picture in Spanish. So many pictures in Spanish!"

Scene: We are FaceTiming with Mimi and Papa on a Saturday morning. I mention that my dad noticed Francie's belly is getting smaller, and while I know that's a good thing, I feel sad to see her slowly outgrow her baby fat.
Papa: "Just start feeding her Crisco."
Alex: "Or we could eat McDonalds'."
Francie, smiling, sporting her "that's so silly face": "I don't eat farms."
Group pause, then laughter. Get it? Her only McDonald's reference is about the old guy with a farm!

Scene: Alex and Francie are on a date at the Raccoon Lodge, talking about the animal heads on the wall. At some point Alex explains that a hunter killed the animals, and Francie said, "like my friend." Because she has a friend named Hunter. Capital H. Not the guy who killed those animals. Which I think might be fake anyway.

Scene: Alex and Francie are eating cereal together, and she's throwing stuff on the floor. Alex, exacerbated, asks, "why are you doing this?!?" Francie, even wiser than she appears, responds, "Because I'm two!"
