The Bean had her second international trip of the summer, and of her life, last weekend - the Hartman side of the family went to Canada. Early Thursday morning the Hubs, the Bean, my Dad and I drove from Portland to Port Angeles to catch the ferry to Victoria, on Vancouver Island. There we saw a variety of animal, including two whales from the boat, goats, peacocks, miniature donkeys and more. We had high tea at the Empress. We spent a full day lollygagging through gardens and lounging in the shade in the nicest non-golf grass I've ever seen at Butchart Gardens. The Bean had her first ride on a carousel. She learned to use the nice camera. We slept on some shitty mattresses. Alex and I had a dinner date out. And we all enjoyed some Canadian playgrounds.
Day #1: road trip, ferry ride, high tea, and a dinner date
Family "groupie" - Francie, Joanna, Al and Alex
Francie sitting on mama's lap in the front seat while driving onto the ferry.
Views of the Olympic Peninsula from the ferry headed to Vancouver Island.
Alex and Francie watching for whales.
Meanwhile, inside ... I forgot how much I hate ferries.
Fancy high tea at the Empress.
A real live grown-up tea party!
The face of true tea party love. But seriously, more access to desserts than ever before in her 3 years.
This guy.
Day #2: Butchart Gardens
The Bean's first carousel! I think I was more excited than she was. She chose to ride the giraffe.
Live action carousel shot. A few minutes after this, she erupted in a tantrum. Because she thought she could just ride the carousel forever.
Garden naps.
Ice cream break.
The "rock bridge."
Day #3: Beacon Hill Park, the farm and "running of the goats," lounging in Victoria, and a taxi-boat ride
Beacon Hill Children's Farm - peacocks galore, and home to the goat stampede ...
